Text and art have been intertwined for centuries, from illuminated manuscripts to surrealism, cubism, and all the way to contemporary art, many artists increasingly focused on text in their art. From projections to canvases, sculptures to public murals, and advertising to political activism, the versatility, and power of the written word always encourages the viewer to reflect. WordMapMind is a video work inspired by the works of the American artist Jenny Holzer, who is known for her text-based projections, which took advantage of what was then new technology in the 80s to broadcast her messages to a wide audience. Using direct language, and often juxtaposing phrases, she forces the public to confront societal issues. Using a similar methodology artist Faisal Anwar reflects on the times today realizing how little control we humans have over nature, time, and what holds next. Possibly an opportunity to reflect, rethink, and align ourselves with nature and the universe.
